Richmondshire Council to take votes on filming request

19th July 2013 by Sarah Hartley

An update to the whole council filming issue we’re tracking here comes today from my own local authority, Richmondshire District no_filmingCouncil.

Following a request in March, and subsequent hosting of a workshop for councillors, the elected members are to take a vote next Tuesday. The council is not covered by the Communities and Local Government’s latest guidelines giving people a right to film as it doesn’t operate a cabinet structure.

It’s a missing element in the guidance that people attempting to film parish and town councils are already encountering but this is one of the first councils we’ve come across to take a formal decision since the new guidance was issued – maybe the experience and decision-making process in Richmondshire will also impact on other similar authorities?

I’ve blogged more fully about it at the hyperlocal website for the town here.
