Jon Slattery has just posted about Northcliffe Digital moving their Local People sites to a franchise offering to help them move in to new areas.
Previously Northcliffe Digital had said that they would not start a Local People site in an area that already has an existing hyperlocal site, but with this move it seems that the gloves are off and any area is fair game.
According to blurb on the Local People site, for as little as £6995 +VAT you can buy in to the Local People franchise that covers an area of a vague 20,000 to 80,000 inhabitants.
Running a localpeople franchise is about becoming the centre of your community, and championing its interests.
People who really care about their local community will be doing this already, they don’t need to have a business and franchise targets to make them want to be the centre of their community, they do it because they want to and they care.
You can look at the TAL Site Links page to see dozens of people who are running sites because they want to not because there is an alleged business model to a local site. You want more? Have a look at the Openly Local map of Hyperlocal sites.
If you want to run a true local website then have a look at the resources on this site and sign up for an ad serving platform like addiply.com both of which are free.
If you want advice or support then feel free to contact us and we will do what we can to help you.
Away from Talk About Local I take photos, fly my quadcopter and walk my two Beagles.
If I'm not doing any of the above then you'll find me volunteering at my local RNLI station as a press officer.
