Talk about local is looking for someone to help deliver our training programme who is used to working with the grass roots voluntary sector and community groups. This job involves supporting and organising our training partners in community centres and libraries all over the country over the phone, on email, Skype and the web.
We are a small digital company with a public service ethos that helps people find a voice for their neighbourhood online. Talk about local trains trainers all over the country to use wordpress.com ‐ they then go on to train members of the public. Our network is growing fast and we need someone to help us support our trainers.
We are looking for someone who is outgoing and friendly ‐ you find it easy to strike up a rapport with pretty much anyone and put them at ease and motivate people who need a helping hand. You should have good verbal and written communication skills and be able to express yourself clearly. Most importantly you should be used to working with the grass roots voluntary sector and community groups ‐ fantastic people but who often need a helping hand to get organised, apply for funds etc.
You should have demonstrable training experience (formal or informal) and be familiar with or willing to learn how to use and then train in wordpress.com and similar easy to use web tools. In general you should have good online skills and in general have the confidence to take day to day decisions on your own but know when to ask others for help.
Core tasks will be handling people and information ‐ helping callers with basic queries about their wordpress training, talking to our community training partners to organise them into training sessions, chasing and monitoring training returns, managing messages, using Skype and handling email.
You should be able or willing to learn to use excel or a database at a basic level to make and manage lists. Our business is almost entirely electronic.
There will be some travel involved when we are delivering training direct at events.
Have a look at our website http://talkaboutlocal.org and look at some of the websites we have helped people create to get a feel for the things we do and the type of people you will be helping.
You will be based in beautiful Digbeth at our offices in Fazeley Studios. It’s a friendly working environment although sometimes you might be in on your own if we are all on the road.
Terms: 4 days a week, salary £18k pro rata, six month contract, possibility of extension. Immediate start if possible.
Application: please send details of relevant work and education experience including two referees to info@talkaboutlocal.org by 1800 on 18 November. If you have any queries please call 0121 288 2910 and speak to Nicky Getgood.
