We have been playing about with Geolocation of content and Augmented Reality for a while now here at Talk About Local. Our Nesta & Nominet Trust funded HypARlocal research project ran for 12 months and allowed us to investigate some of the many ways for delivering geolocated content to handsets and portable devices.
Part of our research project was build tools that would allow people to geolocate their content simply. We engaged the services of Adrian Short who built us a platform that does all the hard work of sorting and delivering geolocated content in to Layar for us. Adrian also forked the Geolocation WordPress plugin to make it Geolocation Plus, this plugin makes adding a location to your content as easy as dropping a pin on a map.
Now we have all the tools in place we are opening up our platform to allow you to put your content in to our general Talk About Local layer for 14 days for free so you can play about with the technology in your area and see how it works.
All you need to do to is follow the instructions below for adding a location to your content
Then just drop us a mail to hello@talkaboutlocal.org.uk with the URL of your site and which platform you are using. We’ll check your feed and then add it to our Talk About Local layer in the Layar app for you to play with.
If you are not using WordPress or Drupal but have a georss feed then we’ll be more than happy to test it in our software to see if we can read it for you.
