Locist

I came across this iPhone app over the weekend, Locist (app store link), I have only just started to play around with it today.

According to the description on the app store Locist is a real-time, location-based messaging platform that lets you pin content to specific locations and hold spontaneous and open conversations about it with anyone nearby.

So it fits in with our thinking at Talk About Local that location based content and services are going to be one of the next big things. It also strengthens our case for the Augmented Reality apps that we are piloting on hyparlocal.talkaboutlocal.org.uk.

Do you use Locist? What do you think of it? I’ve only played briefly with it and as yet have to find anyone using it locally to me, but I’m on there as mikerawlins if you do use it.

Mike, the Talk About Local technical ninja, has been publishing on the internet for over 15 years and specialises moderation around contentious issues, technical aspects of WordPress and Geolocation of content. Mike ran the nationally acclaimed Pits n Pots website from 2009 -2012 which scrutinised Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
