Are there communal noticeboards in your area where people tend to put up posters about local events, courses and lost cats?  Think about posting updates from the information on them as a regular feature on your community website.

Nicky is the Communications Manager at Talk About Local – recruiting, training and working with IT trainers and active citizens across the UK to help them create and develop simple yet effective community websites and online profiles. She managed the popular Birmingham hyperlocal website Digbeth is Good since it began in May 2008 until December 2011. Nicky is interested in ways of using storytelling, game-playing and events within communities to tell their stories and effect positive change.

    When I started Created in Birmingham one of my regular jobs was gathering leaflets from around the city. The problem we were trying to solve was that this information wasn’t online when it should have been.

    Another idea for local sites is the cards in newsagents windows and the like. Not only are these sources of news but they’re often quite bizarre. Particularly, it seems, in Bournville:
